What is the difference between a risk, a threat, a vulnerability and an exploit? Which product or solution can be employed to address my institution’s information security and compliance needs? This paper provides some clarity on the first question, and in the process, it should help to offer an answer to the second question, one of aligning concerns with solutions with vulnerability management.

The world has changed. Yesterday everyone had a managed PC for work and all enterprise data was behind a firewall. Today, mobile devices are the control panel for our personal and professional lives. This change has contributed to the single largest technology-driven lifestyle change of the last 10 years. As productivity tools, mobile devices now access significantly more data than in years past. This has made mobile the new frontier for a wide spectrum of risk that includes cyber attacks, a range of malware families, non-compliant apps that leak data, and vulnerabilities in device operating systems or apps. A secure digital business ecosystem demands technologies that enable organizations to continuously monitor for threats and provide enterprise-wide visibility into threat intelligence. Watch the webinar to learn more about: What makes up the full spectrum of mobile risks Lookout's Mobile Risk Matrix covering the key components of risk How to evolve beyond mobile device management

GDPR will pose different challenges to each organisation. Understanding and acting on the implications for your own organisation is vital. That means taking a risk-based approach to ensure that you are doing what you need to do to manage your own specific risks to personal information. While virtually all organisations will have to implement changes to become GDPR compliant, some will be able to take partial advantage of existing compliance to other security mandates and frameworks, such as ISO 27001 and PCI by extending those measures to protection of personal data. Even so, further work will be required to comply with GDPR, both with regards to security and its other aspects.

With so many vendors claiming to have a Next Generation Firewall (NGFW), it can be difficult to tell what makes each one different. John Pescatore of SANS Institute originally coined the phrase and now explains what he suggests enterprises look for when considering alternative NGFW solutions.

Why Cisco Umbrella is the simplest decision you can make to improve your companys security. You have to make some serious security decisions when youre an IT leader. Thats because both the volume and sophistication of attacks are intensifying relentlessly and its clear that conventional defenses alone are no longer adequate. More effective blocking of attackers is particularly important because under-the-radar attacks are wreaking havoc on enterprises that rely on antivirus products, firewalls, and sandboxing alone. Umbrella is a proven service provider whose security services are completely nondisruptive. Download this whitepaper to find out more.

Todays enterprises face new requirements for their datacenter and cloud architectures, from keeping pace cost-effectively with fast-growing traffic to ensuring optimal application performance no matter how quickly business needs or the enterprise environment evolve. At the same time, IT must reduce costs and datacenter sprawl, ensure security and uptime, and prepare for a new generation of cloud computing initiatives. While many Application Delivery Controller (ADC) solutions promise to meet demanding customer needs, the reality often falls short. Taking a closer look at the available options and how they measure up against the criteria that matter most, it becomes clear that NetScaler beats the competitionproviding better performance and scalability than F5 Networks, Inc.

Cloud services are a pillar of a digital transformation, but they have also become a thorn in the side of many security architects. As data and applications that were once behind the enterprise firewall began roaming freeon smartphones, between Internet-of-Things (IoT) devices, and in the cloudthe threat landscape expanded rapidly. Security architects scrambled to adjust their technologies, policies, and procedures. But just when they thought they had a handle on securing their cloud-connected enterprises, new business imperatives indicated that one cloud wasnt enough. Modern enterprises operate in a multi-cloud world, where the threat landscape has reached a new level of complexity. Security teams are juggling a hodgepodge of policies, threat reports, and management tools. When each cloud operates in its own silo, the security architect has even more difficulty supporting the CISO or CIO with a coherent, defensible security posture.

Previously, the network at the City of Lake Wales didn't possess any firewalls, intrusion protection or web filtering solutions. As a result the network, which is spread out to multiple locations (including law enforcement), was left wide open to security breaches and caused system performance problems as users unwittingly picked up spyware and malware.

The problem with the vast majority of network and endpoint security solutions is that they operate on the premise of static whitelists and blacklists. These lists do not account for the changing nature of URLs, IPs, files and applications, nor for the volume of unknown threats permeating the web, meaning they cannot be used to provide adequate protection. Compounding this problem is that commercial network security technology, such as NGFWs and unified threat management systems, can easily flood the organizations network security teams with too many alerts and false positives, making it impossible to understand and respond to new threats. As a result, not only do these threats evade the security technology and land with the victims infrastructure, but they also have plenty of time to steal sensitive data and inflict damage to the victims business. The final characteristic of the latest attacks is how quickly they compromise and exfiltrate data from the organization, compared to the

Don't let the risk or cost of ransomware storm your organization's castle. it will wreak havoc on your valuable data and impact business continuity. Instead, employ a multi-layer security strategy that not only includes anti-malware, firewall, and hard disk and file encryption, but also data loss prevention technology and standards- based data protection. Each are critical to mitigate cyber security risks and protect vital information so you can avoid business disruption without ever paying a king's ransom.
