Hospitality is a customer-focused industry, with a hotel brand’s reputation and ultimate success dependent on the quality of the experience of its guests. It is no surprise then, that digital transformation efforts within the hospitality sector are focused on technologies that improve the guest experience, from check-in to check-out and everything in between. Today’s travelers are digitally savvy, using their smartphones and mobile devices for a multitude of tasks. They expect a high-quality connection throughout the property and the ability to perform certain tasks from the hotel’s app, such as checking in and choosing their own room. They expect in-room entertainment beyond basic cable and in-room digital devices they can use to order food, book a massage or control the lighting, for example.

Teachers have always experimented with new technology and how it can be integrated to augment the lessons and content given to students. Classroom sets of books afforded teachers the opportunity to give homework, movie projectors and televisions offered an opportunity to display new content, and calculators transformed computational mathematics. Augmented and virtual reality are new tools that can transition pedagogy to include new materials and content. Students can travel to historical landmarks, world heritage sites, and past events from the safety of their classroom. Books can be scanned to reveal videos and three-dimensional content identified by the teacher to enhance the content available to the student. Download this whitepaper to learn more. Every day, companies generate mountains of data that are critical to their business. With that data comes a clear challenge: How do you protect exabytes of data that's strewn across global data centers, computer rooms, remote offices, laptops, desktops, and mobile devices, as well as hosted by many different cloud providers, without choking business agility, employee productivity, and customer experience? The solution lies not in throwing more technology at the network, but in taking specific steps to identify malicious actions and respond to them in order to fix the issue, a process known as operationalizing security.

In the emerging digital enterprise, there’s a good chance some application development will be taking place outside the information technology department. It’s not that the role of IT is in any way being diminished – in fact, IT managers are getting busier than ever, overseeing the technology strategies of their enterprises. Rather, the pieces are in place for business users to build and configure the essential business applications they need, on a self-service basis, with minimal or no involvement of their IT departments. As the world moves deeper into an era of ongoing disruption from digital players – be they startups, or teams within established enterprises – technology has become an essential part of every job, from the boardroom to the boiler room. Accordingly, the discipline of IT is no longer confined to the data center or development shop. Many business managers and professionals are building, launching or downloading their own applications to achieve productivity and respond

Imaging technology has dramatically aff ected the experience of K-12 teaching and classroom dynamics. From a time when the primary ways to relay information were verbal, via a blackboard or overhead projector, to the current array of computers, tablets, fl at screens and projectors – deciding what to select can be complicated. Today there is a lot of focus on fl at panels and projectors. However the big dilemma isn’t which technology to select, but how to support the right visual environments that help teachers teach and students learn. Whether the pedagogical style is sage on a stage, guide by the side, fl ipped classrooms, display-based or constructivist, getting everyone on the same page and keeping focus are key components in supporting student comprehension.

Previous best practices for cleaning healthcare facilities centered on sanitizing frequently touched objects, such as bed rails or call buttons, because these objects were believed to be major sources of contagion. However, this new study finds that floors are the largest potential source of pathogens after reviewing five participating Cleveland-area hospitals. Specifically, the following findings are highlighted in the study: • Patient room floors in five hospitals were found to be contaminated with healthcare-associated pathogens. • High-touch objects often came to be in direct contact with the floor. • Touching objects on the floor frequently resulted in transfer of pathogens to hands. • Floors in hospital rooms are overlooked as a source for pathogen dissemination, with potentially dangerous results.

Some are working on migrating to the cloud over time. And others, through choice or necessity, are sticking with a premises-based approach. Read on to find out why some IT pros are shopping for game tables to go in empty server rooms while others are untangling wires and watching blinking lights—and which cases make the most sense for each approach.

Effective, engaging collaboration that leverages video conferencing should incorporate features like content sharing, clear participant rosters, easy call management controls and Instant Messaging. But, according to Microsoft research, some 97 percent of meeting rooms aren’t adequately equipped to handle video. In fact, a majority of these rooms host the most rudimentary of collaboration solutions like a digital projector and an audio connection for conference calls. And, while most of these enterprises are adopting Skype for Business for end-users, the reality is that many of their conference rooms lack the ability to connect to Skype for Business calls, which eliminates effective collaboration tools like video and content sharing. Part 2 in our Partnering with Certainty Webinar Series, "Customer Demands at the Edge." In our last webinar, we discussed how trends & technologies like IoT and its many applications have helped drive an Always On, Always Connected mentality that has completely evolved customer experience standards. These demands are driving a need for resiliency in local edge environments, meaning compute & storage capacity is now coming back on premise for many applications – especially in industries like Healthcare, Retail, Finance, and Education. In other words, this highly distributed access layer is now becoming a compute layer – one that is mission-critical to delivering a flawless (or at least acceptable) customer experience. These environments are often make-shift wiring closets (janitor’s closets, back rooms, etc.) with no dedicated IT staff per each location. More than ever before, Healthcare, Retail, Finance, and Education customers are turning to solution providers to be that “dedicated IT staff” to find and fix problems before they start, so that the customer (or patient, or student) experience they’re working to provide remains a good one. In some cases, adopting cloud IoT platform may make more sense where required processes, communication costs and cloud costs meet sufficient total cost of ownership against deploying MDC. Additionally, in situations that an end-user organization already has a secure room or a modular data center solution where infrastructure can be housed and/or the amount of infrastructure involved may be too small to benefit from power/cooling advantages of being housed in an MDC, the organization may not see a need for an MDC. An MDC is nothing more than a smaller form of a modular data center, and a number of providers have entered the modular data center solutions space in the past. These modular data center solution providers came into the market with high expectations for growth and ROI only to find that high sales were not forthcoming due to limited use cases, so many exited the space.
