When Daniel Shuler joined Phoenix Children’s Hospital (PCH) as CISO in 2016, he knew the hospital would be a tempting target for cyber criminals due to the massive troves of sensitive data it collects to diagnose and treat patients. Over the next three years, Shuler spearheaded a complete overhaul of PCH’s security fabric. First, he decommissioned the legacy AV and engaged BlackBerry Cylance’s ThreatZERO™ consultants to deploy CylancePROTECT® on over 4,000 endpoints. Soon after, CylancePROTECT stopped a ransomware attack that could have disrupted patient care by preventing access to electronic medical record data. Next, he engaged a BlackBerry Cylance Red Team to perform annual penetration testing assignments. Says Shuler, “Our relationship is unique in my experience. BlackBerry Cylance has proven repeatedly that they have our best interests at heart and that they share our commitment to provide the best care possible for children and their families.” Read the case study for the full s

In order to give their commercial customers the best prices and most flexible purchasing options possible, Floor & Decor offers lines of credit through their preferred credit provider, CIT. To fully leverage and scale this partnership, Floor & Decor needed a way to quickly check credit availability in their retail stores on demand. It also needed to generate invoices to send to their commercial customers while providing assignment notices to CIT.

New digital technology now makes it feasible to integrate process control and SIF within a common automation infrastructure. While this can provide productivity and asset management benefits, if not done correctly, it can also compromise the safety and security of an industrial operation. Cybersecurity and sabotage vulnerability further accentuate the need for securing the safety instrumented system (SIS). Certainly, a common platform approach using similar hardware and software dedicated for control and safety functions, respectively, can provide the potential for cost savings. However, it is widely acknowledged that utilizing separate, independent, and diverse hardware/software for safety and control is the optimal way to protect against potentially catastrophic common cause and systematic design and application errors. Different vendors offer varied degrees of integration and solutions. The question is: how to provide an integrated control and safety solution with advanced functionality and productivity without compromising safety and security? And, where do users draw the line? A third-party (e.g., TÜV) certification of the hardware/software systems to IEC 61508 specifications carries significant advantages, but should this be the only criterion? How does a third-party certificate extend to the plant’s overall assignment of risk reduction credits for all independent protection layers (IPL)? Control system embedded safety logic solvers may actually increase the SIL requirements of the SIF if no credit is allowed for the distributed control system (DCS) as an IPL. o With foot traffic falling and online shopping options growing, retailers must find new ways to “digitize” and understand real-world behavioral data—such as in-store browsing patterns, staff attentiveness, and specific product interest— in the same way that online retail utilizes big data to optimize online experiences. They must also find innovative ways to keep customers engaged with their brands, especially in expensive brick-and-mortar locations. In this environment, managing labor costs is critical, as these costs are second only to real estate. Assigning and enabling sales associates cost-effectively is key to profitability. Retailers have an opportunity to meet their challenges by putting new data and Internet of Things (IoT) technologies to work

Concern over code modification, key compromise, password-based vulnerabilities and man-in-the-middle attacks have caused hospital CIOs and CISOs to rethink their security strategies and investments. Humans excel at tasks that require creativity, the opportunity to respond to the unexpected, and general attentiveness to the surrounding environment. Technology and machines, on the other hand, are built to process a lot of information quickly without getting bored; technology reliably completes the task it is assigned without deviation. The most powerful approach to adding technology to a team takes the strengths of both humans and technology into account and from that, creates a superior, collaborative system. For example, reporting software such as Spreadsheet Server and Atlas for Dynamics AX/365 by Global Software, Inc. both serve as machine learning intelligence that uses automation to reduce errors, while at the same time preserving humans’ ability to create reports and outcomes from the data the way they need to see it.

In today’s competitive work environment, attracting and retaining top talent is paramount and expensive. Companies recruit high performing employees with deep experience, invest in training, and reward outcomes. Yet while talent and experience are critical, new evidence suggests those attributes may not be enough. It’s not simply how well a person can perform in a typical situation, but how quickly they can return to high performance after an inevitable setback. Resilience is the ability to become strong, healthy or successful again after something bad happens. It includes (learnable) cognitive and emotional skills that reduce the degree and duration of episodes of discouragement, reluctance or defeat that often follow negative events. A resilient worker will quickly put the event in perspective and search for alternative solutions while their less-resilient colleagues experience a letdown or assign blame. This paper describes how resilience, measured by the meQ Score, corresponds to w

These needs create a daunting array of workload challenges and place tremendous demands on your underlying IT infrastructure and database systems. In many cases, these systems are no longer up to the task—so it’s time to make a decision. Do you use more staff to keep up with the fixes, patches, add-ons and continual tuning required to make your existing systems meet performance goals, or move to a new database solution so you can assign your staff to new, innovative projects that move your business forward?

Throughout the twentieth century, the efficiency of real estate portfolios was quantified primarily in terms of a building’s cost per square foot and the average number of “usable square feet” it provided for each person who worked in it. By these measures, the workplace contributed to an organization’s bottom line by (1) getting smaller and/or (2) fitting more people into the same amount of space. Meanwhile, mobile technologies and new economic and social pressures ushered in new ways of working. By 2011, more than 60 percent of large organizations worldwide had implemented programs and practices that gave people more choice about where, when, and how to do their jobs.2 But although a few new workplace metrics (“collaborative seats per person,” “desk-sharing ratios”) have emerged, the focus on reducing direct costs (through allocating fewer square feet to “assigned seats” in individual offices or workstations) remains paramount

Many sales organizations continue to operate as they have for years: At headquarters, executives work with sales leaders to set revenue targets for the year. Sales teams receive top-down goals, which cascade across product lines, channels and other business dimensions. The end result is an account-level target, which is assigned to a sales rep. Because most companies do not have an easy way to complete this process—nor do they use a common system of record—they must resort to the quickest and easiest mechanism at hand: spreadsheets, a nonscalable, single-dimensional solution that does not handle complete data sets. This approach also poses challenges across key sales management functions, including planning, execution and optimization.

94% of IT professionals consider it valuable to manage data based upon the business value of it. Yet only 32% are doing it - because it's hard. Are you looking to be a part of the 32% without the difficulties? There is a substantial gap between those who want to use data to its full potential and those that are actually doing so. Storage systems have never been designed with the end-goal to help customers prioritize their data based on their own priorities and the value of that data. Narrowing that gap may not be as hard or expensive as many companies think. Solving these challenges was one of the founding principles around NexGen's Hybrid Flash Array. Download now and learn how IT professionals can use NexGen storage architecture and software to simplify data priority assignment and management process.
