This evolving technology promises faster deployment, lower costs and improved IT staff productivity. Hyperconverged data centers were once a niche technology that mostly appealed to organizations with specialized needs, such as streamlining the management of small and branch offices. Today, many enterprises are now recognizing the value of transitioning their conventional data centers into hyperconverged facilities. Gartner reports that by 2018 hyperconverged integrated systems will represent as much as 35 percent of total converged infrastructure shipments by revenue, up from a low single-digit base in 2015. This white paper can help you confirm that your small business or distributed enterprise needs to invest in an effective next-generation firewalls (NGFW) solution. For small businesses, the NGFW should provide an affordable and manageable entrée to advanced threat protection. In branch offices and the distributed enterprise, NGFWs should provide a detection and enforcement point, analyzing real-time threats and network traffic at scale and benefiting from an integrated and holistic view of the network of which it is a part. In both use scenarios, the NGFW should help your organization defend against targeted and persistent malware attacks, including emerging threats.

In the past, desktops, business apps, and critical infrastructure were all located behind the firewall. Today, more and more is happening off-network. More roaming users. More corporate-owned laptops accessing the internet from other networks. More cloud apps, letting users get work done off the corporate network. And more branch offices connecting directly to the internet.

In the not so distant past, the way we worked looked very different. Most work was done in an office, on desktops that were always connected to the corporate network. The applications and infrastructure that we used sat behind a firewall. Branch offices would backhaul traffic to headquarters, so they would get the same security protection. The focus from a security perspective was to secure the network perimeter. Today, that picture has changed a great deal.

Your users, especially when working outside of the office, no longer need to always connect to the corporate network to get work done. They often connect directly to SaaS apps. And, let’s face it, employees also don’t turn on the VPN if they’re using their work laptop for personal use — which means they’re left with very little security protection. Plus, many organizations are now using direct internet connections at branch offices, which means employees and guest users don’t get the protection of your traditional security stack. Not only are more offices connecting directly to the internet — it’s estimated that 70% of branch offices already have some direct internet access — but attackers recognize these weak points in their targets and have started exploiting them more. To solve these new challenges, security controls must also shift to the cloud. This in-depth white paper describes how security must evolve to protect users anywhere they access the internet.

As networks become decentralized and users connect directly to SaaS applications, backhauling traffic to apply security policies just isn’t efficient. Plus, backhauling internet bound traffic is expensive, and it adds latency. More and more branch offices are migrating to direct internet access (DIA). Find out how to quickly and easily secure this traffic.

Companies today are as distributed as their customer base, with branch offices and satellite locations scattered well beyond traditional boundaries. For many, these distributed sites are the face of the company to the customer, with most—if not all— customer interactions occurring in these locations and not in the corporate headquarters. Banks and finance centers, retail stores and even urgent care centers all fit within the category of the branch office, with each location connected to the corporate headquarters and, increasingly each other. Together, they make up the distributed enterprise. However, each location is its own entity and must be able to operate independently of headquarters to ensure business can continue even if one or other locations experience technical issues. Distributed locations, therefore, must be equipped to handle all manner of customer interactions – and evolving customer expectations—and do so in a way that anticipates what the customers want next. Remote offices, branch offices and small businesses have dramatically stepped up their adoption of new technology to help them run everything from typical business applications to cutting-edge solutions that differentiate their organizations. But that rapid run-up in new technology deployments has often come with a cost: increased infrastructure complexity that has become harder and more expensive to manage.

The Department of Homeland Security puts businesses in two categories: those who have already experienced the pain of losing valuable electronic data, and those who will at some point in the future. Well-prepared businesses know that deploying the right resources, processes and technology to protect vital HR information is important, but having adequate resources and technology in place to protect the same invaluable data in branch offices is just as important, though often overlooked. This paper will teach you how real-time data replication software can automatically backup branch office data to a central server for a simpler, more reliable and cost-effective way to protect your branch.

The all-encompassing data center is a thing of the past. Modern data environments are distributed and include remote and branch offices, mobile devices, and the Internet of Things (IoT) as well as cloud solutions such as infrastructure as a service (IaaS), platform as a service (PaaS), and software as a service (SaaS). There’s more critical data to back up than ever before. Plus, data silos and fragmented management mean poor visibility, which can make it difficult to comply with regional data residency and security rules as well as service-level agreements (SLAs). On-premises data protection has not kept pace. According to a survey by Fujitsu, 45% of IT managers said they had lost data or productivity related to data protection inefficiency within the last year.1 Often, this is because on-premises backups are cumbersome and do not always happen on time.

IT Managers are tasked with making the desktop environment more secure and locked down to a uniform corporate standard, yet flexible enough to handle the myriad of exceptions that arise across the enterprise. Centralized Configuration Management (CCM) tools are great, especially in environments with branch offices. But CCM tools can’t do the big job of making your environment inherently more secure or more flexible.

Enterprises currently face challenges regarding the price, performance, and flexibility of traditional wide area networks (WANs). Aggressive growth in the adoption of public cloud services (a projected 86% spike between 2014 and 2018)1 is forcing organizations to look elsewhere for a more effective network solution to address distributed traffic across remote sites and branch offices. Some of the specific issues organizations face with their traditional WANs include: - High total cost of ownership (TCO) - Lengthy provisioning cycles - Performance degradation with the growth of cloud traffic - Inadequate redundancy and resiliency - Lack of application-aware connectivity To better manage WAN investments, enterprises are adopting a new approach for their distributed branch office networks. Software-defined WAN (SD-WAN) offers improved performance, agility, and operational flexibility plus significant cost savings. But not all SDWAN solutions are created equal.

Patton Harris and Rust and Associates has 13 branches.  Management and IT needed a way to help these offices work on projects together to optimize company resources.  Using GlobalSCAPE WAFS gave PHR+A fast file access across branches using minimal system resources. No management is required as it operates in the background and real time byte level differencing not only reduces bandwidth usage and spikes but also the changes are sent as they happen – not when they are needed.

Today’s data centers are expected to deploy, manage, and report on different tiers of business applications, databases, virtual workloads, home directories, and file sharing simultaneously. They also need to co-locate multiple systems while sharing power and energy. This is true for large as well as small environments. The trend in modern IT is to consolidate as much as possible to minimize cost and maximize efficiency of data centers and branch offices. HPE 3PAR StoreServ is highly efficient, flash-optimized storage engineered for the true convergence of block, file, and object access to help consolidate diverse workloads efficiently. HPE 3PAR OS and converged controllers incorporate multiprotocol support into the heart of the system architecture
