As it has been the trend over the last decade, organizations must continue to deal with growing data storage requirements with the same or less resources. The growing adoption of storage-as-a-service, business intelligence, and big data results in ever more Service Level Agreements that are difficult to fulfill without IT administrators spending ever longer hours in the data center. Many organizations now expect their capital expense growth for storage to be unstoppable, and see operating expense levers - such as purchasing storage systems that are easy to manage - as the only way to control data storage-related costs.

Relational database management systems (RDBMSs) are systems of software that manage databases as structured sets of tables containing rows and columns with references to one another through key values. They include the ability to optimize storage, process transactions, perform queries, and preserve the integrity of data structures. When used with applications, they provide the beating heart of the collection of business functions supported by those applications. They vary considerably in terms of the factors that impact the total cost of running a database application, yet users seldom perform a disciplined procedure to calculate such costs. Most users choose instead to remain with a single vendor's RDBMS and never visit the question of ongoing hardware, software, and staffing fees.

All organizations require software systems to conduct daily operations. These strategic enterprise assets are often acquired or created in isolation of each other as an organization grows, particularly for those that provide services rather than physical products. Over time, these systems become complex, overlapping and highly dependent on one another, so more effort must be expended to discover the full effects of any system change. The ability of an entity to update, replace or improve the overall capabilities of the enterprise can become severely impaired. Moreover, support and administrative costs for these critical assets inevitably grow to be a major burden. Add to all this the need to control licensing, follow the organization’s policies and ensure security for the internal network, and it becomes clear that some manner of oversight is required for the enterprise to be successful.

An appropriate time and attendance system that meets your organization’s needs can help to eliminate and even prevent many, if not most, of the negative aspects of inaccurate and unreliable timekeeping. Maintaining accurate and reliable time and attendance information makes it easier to keep a handle on labor costs, increases the accuracy of payroll, and reduces administration in the human resources (HR) department, thus saving time. This white paper outlines the top benefits of a time and attendance system and the positive effect automating your time and attendance process can have on your organization.

The Cloud; software as service across the Internet, is experiencing mass proliferation for everything from banking to CRM. Communications are part of this migration and offer a compelling solution over the retro, hardware-based systems known as PBX. This paper illustrates comparative anatomies of the old and new models. Major benefits of cloud communications are detailed, including the elimination of costs, removal of complexity for managing the system, alleviating IT resources, and the benefits of one system with a host of features. A deep-dive of the technology supporting the solution is included.

Cloud computing has emerged as one of the prevailing IT trends today. By providing greater levels of provisioning and automation, cloud computing can help organizations become more nimble, reduce operating costs, improve application performance, and better allocate their compute resources. It enables organizations to more flexibly scale their IT infrastructure while reducing the administrative burden on IT organizations. But IT departments determined to take advantage of these benefits are at risk of losing control of their infrastructure. Read this white paper to understand how the HP CloudSystem Matrix is an integrated IT infrastructure solution that meets this challenge head-on, enabling organizations to simplify their IT infrastructure, reduce their management burden, and streamline operating costs. You can't afford to ignore email archiving, security, internal policy or regulatory requirements, but can you afford to keep paying for it as multiple systems on top of your email system? When you add up the full price tag for your email environment, from server to soft ware to risk management and staff costs, it becomes clear why running everything in-house can mean you spend far more of your budget on maintenance than innovation.

Email has become something of a critical utility, much like the electricity that powers our offices: it must be available 24 hours a day, it must provide reliable performance, and its cost must be reasonable. However, unlike electrical systems (at least from the user’s perspective), email systems require significant amounts of labor to manage well. Email systems must periodically be upgraded. New hardware must be introduced as organizations migrate to new systems. Security must be maintained and upgraded to protect the system from intrusions. Additional hardware must be deployed to protect against outages that could seriously harm user productivity. Plus, unexpected events, such as spam storms or natural disasters can drive up costs substantially in ways that were not anticipated.

GigaOm is seeing a new breed of services that promise to accelerate the mobilization of existing enterprise applications and business processes. Early mobile-application development solutions (MADP) were resource-intensive, requiring custom client code for each supported platform, as well as an on-premise middleware layer to connect mobile clients to enterprise backend systems. In this new model, code-free, configuration solutions - aimed at business analysts and lines of business- are revolutionizing the landscape, consolidating tools and services to simplify cross-platform enablement, and reducing time to deploy and cost tremendously. This report describes mobile-application configuration (MAC) tools, articulates their business value and suggests conditions under which they may be a good choice for an organization.
