This report provides an overview of the Oracle Cloud at Customer portfolio (this includes Oracle Exadata Cloud at Customer, Oracle Big Data Cloud at Customer, Oracle SaaS at Customer and Oracle Cloud at Customer) and analyzes its capabilities to satisfy the need of enterprises for a next-generation computing platform. A next-generation computing platform allows enterprises to deploy workloads across the premises and the public cloud. For enterprises running their next-generation applications on a next-generation computing platform, Oracle Cloud at Customer does very well because of Oracle’s vision of the “chip-to-click” integrated technology stack (i.e., from the CPU silicon, across all OSI layers and all the way to the end-user mouse click). With Oracle using the same technology stack and machines both in its cloud and on premises, it has the highest degree of identicality across these offerings from all vendors that are part of Constellation Research’s Market Overview on next-genera

The security perimeter once familiar to the enterprise has become incredibly fragmented. Data and applications reside everywhere: on the network, endpoints and in the cloud. The cloud, in particular, is seeing huge growth with enterprises adopting these environments at a rapid pace. According to Gartner, 55 percent of large enterprises will successfully implement an all-in cloud SaaS strategy by 2025.1 Combined with an increasingly mobile and global workforce, and more importantly, increasingly distributed SaaS cloud environments, organizations are now faced with securing a multitude of applications, users, devices and networks – all hosting sensitive data that is critical to business growth, reputation and customer trust.

Every year, record levels of money are spent on new IT security technology yet major breaches and compromises are more prevalent than ever. The concept of “layered security” in which an organization supports a wide variety of security technologies in order to discourage attackers doesn’t seem to be working. It’s time to rethink IT security not just the technology, but the way it’s approached from a strategic, architectural perspective.

SaaS applications continue to provide a tremendous value to end users with easy setup and collaboration capabilities that are changing the way organizations do business. The concern over the loss of data leaving the corporate network and opening the network to external threats through unknown collaborators has caused many organizations to take a "wait and see" approach to SaaS. Microsoft® Office 365™ changes all that.

The software as a service (SaaS) delivery model has matured to such an extent that there is now an on-demand component to most software applications, whether it is online help, automated updates or the main application engine. At the same time, many vendors are realizing that to provide a satisfactory end user experience, total reliance on a web browser is not always enough and a desktop component is often needed.

How can IT achieve the flexibility and agility it needs to offer multiple types of applications in multiple locations? Just as enterprises take advantage of applications hosted in multiple locations (i.e., public clouds, private clouds, or SaaS applications), they take advantage of different networks for different reasons (i.e. performance, backup, remote access). These could be MPLS links, ATM links, traditional Internet connections, or VPN lines. Enterprises, in effect, are already building hybrid networks, and those combined with the elements of hybrid clouds create the hybrid enterprise.
