We’ve arrived at the second anniversary of the Equifax breach and we now know much more about what happened due to the August 2018 release of the GAO Report. New information came out of that report that was not well-understood at the time of the breach. For example, did you know that while Equifax used a tool for network layer decryption, they had certificates nine months out of date? This lapse gave the threat actors all the time they needed to break in and exfiltrate reams of personal data. IBM rarely, if ever publicly, talks about the future of IBM Z. When IBM's sales managers have a oneon-one client conversation (under NDA), they might inform the customer about the next processor, but the company rarely talks about the mid- to long-term future publicly. An obvious reason for this is not to disrupt sales, but at the same time, IBM believes that it is sometimes working on problems that the market might not know it has yet. IBM felt that it was doing a disservice to its current and future customers by not being more open, which is why Tarun Chopra, director, Product Management for IBM Systems, and Ross Mauri, general manager, IBM Z, agreed to talk to IDC about the future of IBM Z. In these conversations, IBM was not putting a date on any of the topics it was willing to discuss. But the company was willing to talk about where it is investing R&D dollars and skills.

Omnichannel is one of those words everyone uses, but few use correctly. It’s not another word for multichannel. It’s a different state of existence. In our experience, multichannel is the ability to interact with customers across many different channels, but not necessarily in a cohesive fashion. As new channels become available, they are “bolted on” to existing customer experience infrastructure such as CRM or customer support systems.
