Two dominant trends are potentially reshaping the role of the HR function in the corporate world. The first relates to the rapid growth of the knowledge economy. In this environment, a committed, appropriately skilled and prudently deployed workforce is critical in order to develop new products and outstrip the competition. Second, many administrative functions that were formerly handled by HR departments, such as payroll and pensions, have now been farmed out to third parties. Indeed, research reveals that more than two-thirds of companies outsource a portion of their HR functions. This report by the Economist Intelligence Unit investigates whether the HR function is forging a close and robust relationship with the CEO. It also explores the nature of these working relationships, how they have been affected by the economic downturn and how they vary across industries and regions.

Being responsible for one-third of a business’ success already puts HR in a critical role. But it’s not just about finding the best people—it’s about finding the best people, at the lowest cost, with the lowest possible attrition and the best possible performance. And it’s about guiding your executive team to the right decisions using the language they understand best: numbers. Talent management—covering everything from recruiting and compensation to ongoing education and retention—has traditionally been managed in silos, with a series of disparate systems and disconnected processes and reports. In today’s data-driven world, CEOs demand more. This new study conducted by HR.com explores what’s working for organizations today and the biggest gaps to fill.

People, machines, data, processes are more connected than ever before, in more ways, and at a pace not previously envisioned. Because of this, the means of user interaction are evolving rapidly, and the outcome is an explosion of information increasing at epic rates. Both the opportunity and the challenge for an organization is to execute a strategy to most effectively participate in, exploit and derive ongoing value from the expansive digital world. To evaluate and ultimately better facilitate this, many organizations are specifically defining a digital strategy as part of their overall general business strategy. Central to that digital strategy is the digital experience.

"Welcome to the age of Social CRM, a different way of thinking about customer relationship management that focuses on using social media to enhance customer engagement. How prepared are companies to make this shift? Despite widespread adoption of social media, for most, Social CRM is still in its early stages, execution is patchy and concerns about ROI remain. To fully exploit the power of social media to connect with customers, organizations need to move beyond isolated projects to integrated programs and, ultimately, a Social CRM strategy."

When 83 percent of online consumers participate in social media, it is no surprise that, like bees to honey, marketers are following suit. According to a recent IBM® Unica® survey of marketers, 47 percent of respondents say they currently use social media marketing tactics; in North America, that number jumps to 58 percent. Yet, for all the rush, many marketers are wondering, “where’s the gold?” The IBM Unica survey found that 48 percent of marketers admit that their social media marketing efforts are totally siloed, frustrating their attempts to create richer customer relationships.

The 2015 Waying Real-Time Marketing Report: Making Real-Time Moments Matter is a first-of-its-kind research study aiming to provide the marketing industry with a quantitative baseline for real-time marketing strategy, execution and trends as currently practiced by major brands. In surveying 200 marketing professionals, Director level and above, who are currently practicing real-time marketing at companies with $100 million in revenue or more, the study drives home the understanding that effective real-time marketing cannot consist of a string of sporadic actions. Instead it requires a carefully planned strategy with the resources to discover the right trends, audiences, and content and target them with meaningful marketing experiences at the time.
