Around-the-clock global operations, data growth, and server virtualization all together can complicate protection and recovery strategies. They affect when and how often you can perform backups, increase the time required to back up, and ultimately affect your ability to successfully restore. These challenges can force lower standards for recovery objectives, such as reducing the frequency of backup jobs or protecting fewer applications, both of which can introduce risk. High-speed snapshot technologies and application integration can go a long way toward meeting these needs, and they have quickly become essential elements of a complete protection strategy. But snapshot copies have often been managed separately from traditional backup processes. Features like cataloging for search and retrieval as well as tape creation usually require separate management and do not fully leverage snapshot capabilities. To eliminate complexity and accelerate protection and recovery, you need a solution

While the inevitable move to Windows 7 has been on the horizon for IT departments for several years, it’s clear that migration projects continue to plague many IT professionals. RES Software commissioned its second Windows 7 migration survey in June 2012 to assess the progress of these implementations in relation to a previous benchmarking survey issued in 2010. The most recent survey captures data from more than 330 IT professionals in North America and Europe across multiple industries and job functions. The results have been analysed and are highlighted within this research brief.

A surprising 80% of the 30 million1 warehouse workers worldwide, in the field of transportation and logistics, are still using pen and paper in a physically-intensive environment that increasingly demands accuracy and real time feedback. With warehouse efficiency, so closely tied to customer satisfaction in areas like ecommerce, the low penetration of digital solutions—20% as recent as 2014, is surprising. Unless an organization has a fully automated warehouse, the job is heavily labor-intensive. VDC research reveals that as long as human labor plays a dominant role in warehousing, any technology that optimizes workflows and improves accuracy will add tremendous value

Ask anyone in business, higher education or the medical community what their top objectives are and they’ll probably say it’s to achieve more, to solve more problems, faster than what’s possible now, while saving money in the process. Ask what’s holding them back and you’ll probably find a diverse variety of obstacles in their day-to-day work processes that hinder them in meeting those goals. Having the right tools to do the job is one crucial element in solving problems and becoming more efficient and productive. Additive manufacturing, widely known as 3D printing, is one of those tools that has helped businesses, educators, health care providers and researchers improve how they design, manufacture and perform research. While no tool is an all-in-one solution, 3D printing is a strong step in that direction, particularly in its most sophisticated forms. 3D printing makes it possible to manufacture things that aren’t feasible with traditional processes like machining or injection moldi

According to the American Community Survey, tele-commuting jumped 79 percent between 2005 and 2012. More than 9 million American workers did their jobs exclusively from home in 2010, according to the U.S. Census, and 30 million work from home at least once a week. And TechCast at George Washington University estimates as many as 30 percent of U.S. private sector workers could be working from home by 2019. For sales professionals, that proportion is certainly higher. The Telework Research Network found in 2011 that 70 percent of those working from home are in management, professional, sales and office jobs. If you’re in sales, you probably spend a considerable amount of time on the go. And why shouldn’t you? Smartphones offer constant, pocket-sized connectivity. Ubiquitous Wifi threatens to render the cubicle obsolete, and the right social networking strategy can sup-plant a hundred individual pitch meetings.

In the latest developments in technology for HCM, Nucleus sees an inexorable march to upend conventional approaches to on-the-job learning. Training scheduled around static variables such as regulatory policy or company initiatives, for instance, is one-dimensional. This type of learning will persist. The emergence of prescriptive analytics made possible by real-time data models, however, makes trigger-based, in-the-moment learning possible (Nucleus Research p199 – The coming mass extinction in HCM, November 2015). Further supporting this are social media–style user interfaces (UIs), which promote continual collaboration. It’s learning that happens whenever an employee needs it, not when the organization or law decrees it. Data across HCM prompts these triggers.

Over the last three years, social networks have experienced exponential growth. Employee networks have grown accordingly, offering access to structured career data through sites like LinkedIn in particular, and unstructured data through networks like Facebook. Employees are continually adding new contacts and growing personal networks. Job posting tools that share jobs into social networks are often described as social referral tools, though this is an inaccurate and misleading description. The more sophisticated of these tools create unique links for sharing that enable employers to identify which of their employees originated the share. This is useful for recognition and reward, whilst the practice of sharing jobs in the wider network is to be encouraged in order to reach job seekers who are browsing or using search engines to identify opportunities. Job seekers are increasingly connecting with their peers in organizations they want to work for. Encouraging employees to share jobs in

In the running battle with cyberthreats, your first line of defense is your IT staff: the system and network administrators, SOC and NOC operators, incident response and forensics analysts, and application development and QA teams. Are these IT professionals ready to take on an ever-growing army of innovative, persistent cybercriminals and hackers? Probably not, if you expect them to acquire the knowledge and skills they need through self-directed study and on-the-job training. There is too much to learn, and few members of the IT staff have the time to research every new threat. And you can’t afford to suffer through APTs, breaches and data leakages just to provide “teachable moments” for IT personnel. There is another solution. Security simulation immerses IT professionals in a realistic online environment and challenges them to fill the roles of cyberattackers and cyberdefenders. It borrows from education theory and online gaming to present knowledge in ways that motivate learning a

Understanding security analytics can be a daunting job. It is more than just analyzing log files but it is less than a full-blown information security platform. In fact, according to Anton Chuvakin, research vice president for security and risk management at Gartner, it is not yet even a “market,” but rather still just a ”concept” that has yet to define best practices.

Much as a journalist is expected to report on the “who, what, when,” etc. when filing their story, professional business-to-business (B2B) sales reps are more likely to open doors, nurture opportunities, and close deals when they know more about their prospect or customer. Sales Intelligence, as a broad category of tools and services within the Sales Effectiveness space, represents a significant opportunity for all varieties of sales-oriented job roles to better understand their buyer both before and during the traditional — and non-traditional — sales cycle. This Research Brief summarizes initial Aberdeen research findings based on recent sales intelligence data collected from 206 survey respondents, and provides specific guidance regarding best practices and technologies that sales leaders and sales operations practitioners are well-advised to adopt.
