The demand on software development teams is greater than ever. With the cultural move towards DevOps, the implementation of CI/CD systems, and the desire to operate in an agile manner, developers are being asked to push out more software - and in shorter periods of time - than ever before. In turn, developers are increasingly relying on open source libraries, or pre-built pieces of code available online, which allow them to add functionality to their code without having to build it from scratch. As a result, software today is rarely completely made of first-party code and is more often "assembled" from other sources.

When any organization starts planning for cloud-native applications, it is important to consider the entire time span: from selecting a development platform until an application is truly production-grade and ready for delivery in the cloud. It can be a long journey, with many decisions along the way that can help or hinder progress. For example, at the beginning of a move to cloud-native development, it is easy for inefficiencies to occur if developers begin selecting tools and frameworks before they know where the application will be deployed. While enterprise developers want choice of runtimes, frameworks, and languages, organizations need standards that address the entire application life cycle in order to reduce operational costs, decrease risks, and meet compliance requirements. Organizations also want to avoid lock-in, whether it is to a single provider of cloud infrastructure or the latest architectural style. In addition, given the steep learning curve in cloud development, con

Citadel-founder Ken Griffin lit up the luxury residential sector in January 2019 when he bought a super penthouse in New York City for US$240 million. This purchase followed another acquisition he made in London in which he forked out US$122 million for a 200-year old house overlooking London’s St James Park. These ultra-high-net-worth (UHNW) buyers, local or foreign, are chief executive officers (CEOs) of tech companies or investment funds, and chairmen of major multi-national corporations (MNCs). They are also collectors of trophy assets who go for nothing less than the best-in-class attributes such as location, size, views, privacy, luxurious furnishings, and architectural merit. Trophy real estate is the ultimate collectible treasure. Like buying a prized sports car or a high-value masterpiece of art, trophy residences can ignite the desires of the UHNW individuals. As such, many developers of ultra-luxury properties have conceived collectible concepts right from the planning

IT and business are changing rapidly. Growth opportunities in new markets, evolving customer behaviors and preferences, increased competitive pressure, and new standards in regulatory compliance are causing organizations to adapt their operations and processes.1 Even so, rigid legacy IT infrastructure can keep you from adjusting to change and reduce the business value of IT. These complex environments often limit flexibility, speed, and scalability, resulting in slow application and service delivery. As a result, your organization can experience broad effects, especially within your IT operations and development teams. Developers need resources to be provisioned and scaled quickly so they can begin work immediately when an idea strikes. They also want more control over those resources while they are in use. However, with complex, hard-to-manage environments and manual processes, IT operations teams often struggle to provide resources and services at the speed that developers demand. Th

The days of monolithic application development are over. And while “digital transformation” may sound like a fancy buzzword that ranks alongside blockchain, agile, and cloud, it’s not all hype. With transformation comes unprecedented levels of speed, consistency, and efficiency that are fundamentally changing the way developers do their jobs. Yes, that includes you. Much of the burden and pressure to deliver on the promises made by the business falls on the shoulders of IT developers. In a world where users demand new applications, features, and updates across all their devices in real time, container technology is your secret weapon. Containers let you work smarter by creating consistent development environments to rapidly develop and deliver cloud-native applications that can run anywhere. With containers, you can also deliver microservices that eliminate lengthy regression testing cycles, deploy without disruption, and provide a mechanism for patching or rolling back code on a featu

Container platforms such as Kubernetes and RedHat OpenShift combine with agile development methodologies to speed up application development and deployment. By allowing developers to break applications up into smaller components (also known as microservices), containers can help reduce dependencies, allow component-level scaling, and encourage rapid release lifecycles.

How Six Companies Innovate with API Management Companies are hungry for ways to innovate in the digital age, and as enterprises have experimented with new technologies, it’s become clear that success requires expanding the reach of digital assets beyond a business’s internal talent. The connected experiences that customers demand occur across a range of channels, and the people building those experiences can be a developer building a mobile app in her garage just as easily as an IT engineer. Businesses need to make their digital assets leverageable to more developers so they can build more digital experiences across more channels, scalably and securely, to engage more customers. In this brief, we explore the diverse ways that innovation leaders have leveraged APIs to transform the way their companies do business. Download this brief to learn more about how to use the power of APIs to open new business channels for your company.

Description Organizations are shifting to containers for its many benefits, including increased developer productivity and an improved, modernized environment for customized applications. While Kubernetes helps organizations get the most out of those benefits, it is complex by nature and can be difficult to manage on your own. Developers need a solution that drives productivity without needing to worry about managing infrastructure. SUSE Cloud Application Platform on Amazon Web Services (AWS) provides a lean and fast platform to accelerate containerized application delivery. By leveraging a managed Kubernetes environment, SUSE makes it easier for DevOps teams to deliver applications, accelerate innovation, and improve IT responsiveness.

Businesses are struggling with numerous variables to determine what their stance should be regarding artificial intelligence (AI) applications that deliver new insights using deep learning. The business opportunities are exceptionally promising. Not acting could potentially be a business disaster as competitors gain a wealth of previously unavailable data to grow their customer base. Most organizations are aware of the challenge, and their lines of business (LOBs), IT staff, data scientists, and developers are working to define an AI strategy.

Many in the United States’ power generation industry no doubt long for the relative market tranquility of the late 20th century. The generation plants built and operated then were carbon-fueled or nuclear-powered, with a few hydro-electric plants sprinkled in. The economics were largely stable and predictable, often thanks to regulation that shielded utilities from market fluctuations. But even in those simpler times, when the market was far less volatile, there was still much due diligence required when investors and developers were considering multi-milliondollar commitments in new generation projects. Today’s market is more volatile, due in large part to the disruptive effect of low-cost natural gas and the subsequent, rapid growth of affordable renewable energy. As more uneconomical and inefficient generation plants go offline, there is, for the most part, sufficient carbon-free or carbon-reduced generation to meet the growing demand for electric energy. There are pockets of growth
