Like many highly distributed businesses, CEFCO Convenience Stores realized that its long-term growth depended on delivering a consistently positive customer experience across its network of 225 stores in the Southeastern U.S. The company also knew it could achieve that goal only by embracing innovative new technologies. Even with a clear strategic vision in place, CEFCO faced a common dilemma: How to innovate with a relatively limited budget, small corporate IT staff, and no in-store IT personnel. To overcome these challenges, the company turned to a solution based on the Cybera® Network Services Platform.

The What, Why and How to Employ NAC to Apply Guest Networking, BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) and Endpoint Security Policies. Many of today's endpoints are neither known nor protected. According to Gartner, enterprises are only aware of 80 percent of the devices on their network. Those 20 percent of unknown devices are inside the perimeter of the network, are unmanaged and provide users with access. They are small, varied and highly mobile, and they are loaded with their own applications, can act as WAPs, and often contain outdated firmware or are jailbroken. Even as the devices are accessing personal applications on the web, they are also accessing corporate resources such as e-mail-all from the very same unmanaged devices, which have not been vetted by the security organization. Smartphones, notebooks, netbooks, iPads, e-readers, gaming consoles and more-the list of personal devices attempting access to employer networks seems to grow every day in what's come to be known as the BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) era in networking.

Today’s corporate networks are more important to business objectives than ever before. Consequently, greater amounts of sensitive data traverse both wired and wireless networks. This plethora of valuable data in today's enterprise attracts an increasing number of hackers and malware applications. However, the inherent connected intelligence and distributed nature that makes the network a treasure trove for cybercriminals can also empower the network to be a proactive security tool. Through traffic visibility, and segmentation, today's enterprise network can prove itself to be a sensor and enforcer for security

Over the past three years, ransomware has jumped into the spotlight of the cyber threat landscape. Kaspersky Lab reports that in 2015, its solutions detected ransomware on more than 50,000 computers in corporate networks—double the figure for 2014. Even at this rate of detection, Kaspersky admits that the real number of incidents is several times higher than what has been detected and reported.1 In just the first quarter of 2016, $209 million was paid out to cyber criminals using ransomware. The FBI estimates that losses to be incurred in 2016 due to ransomware will top $1 billion.2 Once again, this is just the tip of the iceberg.

Mobile device management (MDM) tools allow companies to connect their employees securely to basic corporate network resources. Enterprise mobility management (EMM) goes a step further by enabling secure mobile versions of business-critical applications and data loss prevention to protect corporate information. But in today's workplace, employees and businesses deal with a vast variety of devices with different operating systems and form factors, from PCs and laptops, to tablets and smartphones, and now, increasingly wearables and Internet of Things (IoT) endpoints. The solution is unified endpoint management (UEM), which enables organizations to take a consistent approach to manage and secure every endpoint, any app and content, and across deployment use cases from a single holistic platform. Read this whitepaper to uncover VMware AirWatch®'s leading UEM approach that is benefiting organizations tremendously.

The increase of SSL/TLS traffic indicates that organizations are more and more focused on safeguarding the integrity of the data that flows through their Internet-facing applications. However, the concurrent growth of malware hidden within that encrypted traffic is cause for concern. Without visibility into your SSL/TLS traffic, you’ll have some serious blind spots in your security, and these blind spots could lead to financial losses, data breaches, and damage to your corporate reputation. That’s why it’s essential to regain visibility into that encrypted traffic and allow your malware-scanning and prevention devices to protect your apps and your network. The most efficient way to get that visibility is by orchestrating your outbound SSL/TLS traffic. With a robust SSL/TLS orchestration solution, you’ll enjoy better visibility, increased performance, and more flexibility—so you can stop worrying about hidden malware and focus on developing and supporting new apps to drive your business

Traditional enterprise performance management solutions were designed for applications running inside the corporate network and are unable to provide visibility beyond the corporate network perimeter. With the rapid adoption of Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) applications by enterprises, these performance management solutions that are completely blind to issues outside the enterprise, are unable to help IT teams troubleshoot performance problems with the SaaS applications.

Many, if not most, organizations today are grappling with the challenge of a growing mobile technology environment. Mobility can deliver many key benefits: improved collaboration among workers, enhanced customer service, easier access to corporate information from many locations and increased productivity—to name a few. But the proliferation of mobile devices and applications also comes with its share of challenges, perhaps none more important than ensuring the security of the devices themselves as well as the data they contain and the enterprise networks they access.
